One of the major attractions is the Vasota Fort and the Nageshwar Cave which houses a temple of Lord Shiva. This fort comes under the category of forest forts and is situated in a dense forest area. Special permission is required from the Forest Department to visit the fort. A visit to the fort with a local guide is a must as the fort is surrounded by dense forest. Camping or staying at the fort is prohibited. If you inform the local boatmen or hoteliers in advance, they can get permission to visit the fort. Vasota Fort is located in Koyna Sanctuary. To climb the fort one has to go through dense forest and it is very tiring. From the fort, you can see a vivid view of Tapola, Koyna Sanctuary, and nearby hills as well as Chakdev, Rasalgad, Sumargad, and Mahipatgad. This cliff reminds you of the Konkan ridge of Harichandragad.
